The inaugural Cobar Picnic Race meeting was a day for the community and families in particular with the Cobar markets trackside for the day as well as a jumping castle, face painting and balloon animals for the kids. With park like grounds and the sun shining brightly the locals were almost treated to the rare sight of one jockey riding all the winners on the day. Unfortunately, Canberra based jockey Billy Owen was denied the chance when fellow jockey Annelise King from Kembla Grange guided the Rodney Robb, Nyngan trained Modest Hero to victory in the last race of the day. Keeping with the family theme for the day the first four winners at the meeting are owned and raced by their trainers with the feature winner owned by the trainers wife and niece.
